Devin & Buck’s Sentimental Seaside Nuptials

Devin & Buck didn’t want a cookie cutter wedding. Instead, they wanted their day to be representative of them, both as a couple and individually. The result was a seaside celebration with tons of personal touches and a party for the ages.

D&B are from the greater Philadelphia area, but love spending time at the Jersey Shore. The Reeds at Shelter Haven was high on their list and as soon as we went to go and see it, they fell in love. The bayside ceremony and cocktail hour, along with the stunning open-aire ballroom overlooking the water had them hooked.

Where do we even start with showcasing all of the personal details incorporated into this day? Devin is an avid reader and really wanted to instill her love of books into her wedding. So, we called upon Creamery Hill to make us a custom bookshelf with one of Devin’s favorite book quotes that also served as the seating chart. Each guest got an acrylic bookmark tag that was tucked into a book to give them their seating assignment. To make it even more special, the books featured on this seating chart were from Devin’s own personal collection. As if that wasn’t personal enough, we incorporated some framed photos from the couple that showed off their personalities (hello baby Buck dressed up as Freddy Kruger.)  To really drive the book theme home, their save-the-dates were in the form of a custom library card and Devin made sure to bring her favorite copy of Harry Potter to incorporate in her flatlay.

To highlight the jersey shore aspect of their wedding, D&B incorporated several subtle details as a nod to the dreamy beach town. Their welcome bags were a retro-looking tote that read “Greetings from New Jersey” and inside came customized beach tags with the couple’s name and date featured on them. Devin and her girls got ready in Stone Harbor sweatshirts and of course, the wedding party got around that day in a Jitney. Buck and his groomsmen arrived to the ceremony in style - on a boat coming in from the bay to the venue’s dock.

As if the day didn’t have enough special touches, Buck designed a custom crest featuring themes from his friend group’s inside jokes and had it made into an enamel pin for each of his groomsmen. Devin wanted to make sure to show off her spooky side (her bachelorette party was in Salem, duh) so we made their ‘Til Death neon sign front and center at the reception. For some sweetness, the ribbon wrapped around Devin’s bouquet was made of material from her mom’s wedding dress.

Of course The Reeds allows for a beautiful seaside backdrop for photos, but Devin also wanted to get some garden vibes in her wedding as well. In addition to the dreamy, boho, neutral flowers from We Are Wildflowers, we helped this happen by doing their first look and portraits at The Wetlands Institute. The grounds were beautifully in bloom, complete with lavender to match Buck’s Indochino suit. Kara McCurdy used her genius to capture the garden magic, along with the rest of the day, flawlessly.
