Sunbursts & Stardust’s Glittery Y2K Girl Power Styled Shoot

Photos by Tori Sokalski Photo

At Sunbursts & Stardust, we like to do at least one styled shoot a year. Sorry to all of our other styled shoots, but this one is our favorite of all-time.

The vision for this shoot was a mix of space cowgirl, funky disco, Limited Too, and Y2K vibes. And if we do say so ourselves, we absolutely crushed it.

While Brooke dreamed up the concept and color scheme of the shoot, she couldn’t have brought it to life without the amazing vendors involved. When she reached out to Kelsey at Creamery Hill with her crazy idea for a holographic tile ceremony backdrop and a sweetheart table display with halved disco balls and squiggle arches, Kelsey could have called her crazy and moved on. Instead, she effortlessly made Brooke’s wild vision come to life, even better than she could have ever dreamed of. We gave Kelsey the color scheme and mood board for the furniture lounge, and she delivered - see the purple shag rug, lip phone, coffee table books, etc.

Salt Floral totally knocked the flowers out of the park - from the stunning and complimentary bridal bouquets to the ceremony backdrop piece to the cake meadow loose blooms to the funky floral vessels she contributed. We could not have been happier with the blooms and how they contributed to the shoot.

We would be remiss to talk about this shoot without highlighting and stressing the genius that is Tori Sokalski photo. Tori was our first and only choice for a photographer as soon as we knew we wanted to do this project. The way she combines digital photos and multiple types of film, captures the vibe and essence of the room perfectly, and uses her creative eye for unexpected angles and shots is really what brought this shoot to life. To capture the day on video, one of Sunbursts & Stardust’s own assistants (shoutout to Michelle!!!) used her film-school education to create the perfect highlight reel.

For the venue, we used the newly reopened Braid Mill, located in Germantown. This is an artsy, industrial coworking venue with event space and photo studios. The eclectic backdrop and multiple cool spaces of the venue made the perfect backdrop for the photos.

When it came to the tablescape, we knew we wanted to partner with Citrine PHL, who helped us source the lime green checkered squiggle plates we were looking for, along with the coasters, glassware, napkins, flatware, etc. This was the perfect tablescape to show off the retro, glitter-cherry cake from Sweet T’s Bakeshop. For the day-of details such as table numbers, name tags, invites, an interactive guest time capsule (!!!), and drink signs, we partnered with Nicole at Frankadelphia

Something that was really important to us for this shoot was including LGBTQ+ representation. While our lovely models, Beth and Lilith, aren’t actually a couple, they are both active members of the LGBTQ+ community. Fun fact - Beth owns her own corporate event planning business and Lilith is a full-time scientist. Talk about babes with brains!

For the bridal looks, we wanted to highlight a mixture of both traditional and funky elements. The dresses (for both sets of looks) were provided by La Bella Moda. Both sets of outfits complimented each other but still were different enough that each model had a unique look. Of course some of the stars of the shoot were the veils. Who else could make these stunners other than Madison Chamberlain? For beauty, Makeup By Brielle and Feather Kissed Hair ran with our vision of bright colors (hi blue eyeshadow!) and glitter accents (look at Lilith’s part between her bubble braids!). Finally, we accessories in rings, necklaces, earrings, and jewelry from the iconic Harry Merril & Son jewelers.

This all-female team spent the day creating, laughing, and dancing to Beyonce.
